Helpful House Removals Checklist

There are some important tasks you need to perform before removal day. These factors are necessary for safe and easy move. Time saving is an important part in house removals; you have to start preparation earlier for hassle free move. 

Two Months Before
1)      Arrange pre-visit survey with your removal company
2)      Clear your mind what you would take with you
3)      Manage transportation of your family pet
Six Weeks Before
1)      Book removal date with company
2)      Agree removal plan with company
3)      Make a list of goods to be moved, which requires special care
4)      Arrange pet transport carriers and logistics
Four Weeks Before
1)      Manage records of school and day care centres if available
2)      Notify or cancel memberships of library, gym etc
3)      Manage bank accounts, foreign affairs, pension transfers (if applicable) etc
Three Weeks Before
1)      Arrange child care settlements before removal day
2)      Clear non-essential or unwanted items
3)      Manage food stuff of freezer
Two Weeks Before
Contact different service providers to manage meter readings or accounts such as:
1)      Cable TV provider, telecoms
2)      Electricity supplier
3)      Gas, oil supplier
4)      Water Rates
5)      Local Taxes
6)      Credit card protection companies
7)      TV License
8)      Notify all hire purchase, lease or loans companies
Notify plans of movement:
1)      Arrange or Display insurance cover on household contents, buildings, motor, life etc
2)      National Insurance
3)      Child Benefit
4)      Automobile registration
5)      Driving License
6)      Redirection of mail through the Post Office to family or friends
7)      Inform relatives, friends etc about your relocation and new address
8)      Manage connections of appliances such as washing machine, dishwasher, cooker
Two Days Before
1)      Defrost the freezer and fridge
2)      Cancel or Notify regular deliveries such as newspapers, magazines, milk etc
The Day Before
1)      Check drawers, cupboards and trunks for any fragile items
2)      Place liquids, paints, oils to be moved in sealed containers
3)      Take down blinds and curtains
4)    Put together a pile of “do not remove” essentials such as passports, itineraries, tickets coats, snacks, handbags, cleaning materials
5)    Pack small valuables separately and leave with essentials pile such as jewellery, money, watches, bonds, stamps, coins etc
6)      Separate your airfreight consignment from your sea freight
The Big Day
1)      Confirm service meter readings and keep a copy of readings
2)      Switch off water and power supplies (if necessary)
3)      Lock all doors and close windows
4)      Drop keys off with house owner or estate agent
5)      Exchange contact numbers and agree meeting time with house removal companies
6)  Confirm you have provided all required documentation for your airfreight consignment

When you have appointment with company, exchange contact number and email id to get different quotes from moving companies. Ensure that removal company will have detail about your property and belongings.
